Military identifies casualty as soldier from Philadelphia
Associated Press
FORT CARSON, Colo. - A Fort Carson soldier who died of electrical shock after touching a live wire as he worked in Iraq was identified Tuesday as a 23-year-old man from Philadelphia.
Capt. Brian Faunce was injured Thursday as he was clearing low-hanging power lines near Dujayl, 35 miles north of Baghdad, the Defense Department said. He was given first aid, but died later at a military hospital.
Faunce was a member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, one of three brigades that make up the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas.
About 12,000 Fort Carson soldiers are stationed in Iraq and Kuwait, including 5,200 serving in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. The unit's duties have included setting up roadblocks and security checkpoints in the aftermath of the war.
In all, 19 soldiers from Fort Carson have died during the war in Iraq. Twelve are from the 3rd Armored.
