I received a note yesterday from the best possible source of information on the 4th Infantry Division, Major General Ray Odierno, the 4ID commanding general. Here is the message that he asked me to pass on to our family members: Bob: wanted you to know that today we had a moment of silence prior to our morning update remembering all the great Americans who gave their lives 59 Years ago. I wish I could cover every unit assigned or attached to 4ID, but that would be impossible. We are over 30,000 strong. What I can tell you is that every unit is working extremely hard and making a true difference. We are making it better for future generations of Iraqi's. There are still significant pockets of resistance in some areas, but overall it is a safe and secure environment. Reference Email and phones. The countries telecommunication infrastructure is non-existent, therefore we must relay on military communications. Since the Division is spread over a 400X400 kilometer area, we need every bit of communications to conduct tactical operations. We have provided one worldwide cell phone per battalion for morale calls. So every one should be getting a call soon. Outgoing Mail has been improved and you should begin seeing the benefits soon. I can't tell you how proud I am to serve with all of the great soldiers in this Division. Their dedication and professionalism are incredible. I also want to thank all of the families back home for all their sacrifices and support. We couldn't do it without you. "STEADFAST AND LOYAL" MG Ray Odierno CG 4ID
(Tomorrow we will highlight 1-22 Infantry and 3-66 Armor to round out these weekly updates from 1st Brigade).
