Two Iraqis were killed Monday night in attacks on U.S. tactical command centers in the northern city of Mosul, and a newly established information center was evacuated after it came under fire. In one instance, U.S. forces shot a man who tried to ram into a battalion command center in the northwestern part of the city, the military reported. A second man was killed after opening fire on another command center in the northeast sector of Mosul. In the south of the city, assailants fired on an office opened Sunday to give aid and information to residents after the ouster of Saddam Hussein's government. The information center was evacuated and U.S. forces sent in six tanks. Gunfire could be heard in three parts of the city after darkness fell. The areas involved are controlled by the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division and the 4th Infantry Division. At least 17 people were reported killed and others wounded two weeks ago by U.S. Marines while trying to control crowds in Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city. The Army took over from the Marines in Mosul last week.
