Task-Force Ironhorse Wrap-up

The raid was based on developed information from Iraqi citizens. The soldiers confiscated 16 AK-47 assault rifles, 75 rolls of detonation cord, 33 full magazines of AK-47 ammunition, seven machine guns, one assault rifle, one sniper rifle, one rocket propelled grenade launcher, 12 82mm mortar rounds, 89 detonation devices, 11 car batteries, eight 155mm artillery rounds, 135 lbs. of gun powder and numerous rounds of small arms ammunition. What Our Families Are Hearing From Our Soldiers in Iraq:

1) (This is from Sunday) My son is on the phone now with his brother with the 3BCT of the 4th. Matt was on the roof in Balad building the new toc center there when they heard the news. They were cheering and yelling and dancing! Matt found an Iraqi who frequently works for them. He wanted to talk to this specific guy because he had been badly burned by Sadaam for not joining the army and 4 of his sons had been killed by Sadaam. Matt said he was laughing and crying and thanking the soliders over and over again!! As Matt said in his email. Hooah!

2) Email from an A/3-29FA soldier to his father: Dad, What's up? Just been busy as hell over here ..I wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday but I was out at the fire base shooting fire missions on suspected militia hide outs and counter firing on mortar attacks.. We shot 202 rounds in a couple of days ..Busy busy.. We were direct support for the infantry doing raids in Balad and Samara. They say in two particular fire missions we totally destroyed our targets..... But other than that just the usual ambushes with AK-47 and RPG'S and we have had a lot of IED attacks off the sides of the road..Life is crazy over here ....

3) I got to talk to my husband (1/68) again last night. We were up til 4am my time talking on messenger. He got to see our 3 week old son again & loved it. He told me he got 36 letters from his son's classes. Since he's leaving soon (to PCS) he doesn't have time to respond to all of them, so he's going to make arrangements to go into their classes & thank them personally. I can't wait to tell them - they'll be so excited!

4) What a great birthday gift!! My birthday was Sunday, December14th and my husband called me from work and asked if I had turned on the radio or TV and that he was sure our little blond haired girl had something to do with "Catching HIM." I asked "Who is Him" and turned on the radio just in time to hear the news of Saddam's capture!! Our little blond haired girl got her birthday present exactly 4 months late!! She turned 19 in Iraq on August 14th, exactly one month from the day she was deployed from Ft. Hood. Yesterday her brother said she had confirmed by an E-mail that she was the driver of one of the 5-Tons that transported troops & ammo to the staging area!! I guess we now know why she could not tell us where she was located during her recent contacts home!! She was really upbeat and that was a relief after her being down. From the proud Mom of a 1-66 AR - 4thID Soldier. Let us pray that they not let their guard down & that God Bless us each & everyone!!

5) I just wanted to pass along a quick thanks from my wife and I. Our son a SPC. is in the TOC with the Stryker Brigade (HHT 1/14 CAV) attached to 4ID TF Ironhorse. Your updates are helping us keep track of him. We very much appreciate them, sir. I would also like to pass along that an imbedded reporter is with the Strykers and publishes a story in the Tacoma Tribune. The web site is www.tribnet.com Michael Gilbert is his name and the articles are under an IRAQ War banner on the right side of the home page. Great site to get news of family members..... Our son was lucky to be attached to the MIGHTY 4ID that has captured that rat Saddam.

6) I wanted to let you know that I followed your reader's suggestion to add your address to my address book in my Roadrunner account. Today the newsletter came through without a problem. Yay!

7) From a reader: Lots of pictures of Task Force Ironhorse. Left hand side of the page in the Most Popular Photos section under Tikrit. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/default.jsp

8) Hi, I am the wife of a soldier in HHS 2-20 FA. I'm so thankful for the updates, and thankful for our hard working soldiers, whether here or overseas. Since I believe we all could use a good laugh from time to time, I urge you to go to this website. I hope you all enjoy it as much as my husband and I did. Keep your spirits up and don't stop praying! http://cagle.slate.msn.com//news/SaddamCaptured/main.asp (Editor's Note: This web site gives you a good cross section of political cartoons that have come out since Saddam was captured). 9) ==================
